Beautiful skeins! I too picked up spinning because it’s just amazing to be a beginner at something and experience the learning curve. I haven’t made it a very regular habit yet but I have 1 skein completed - drop spindled and chain plied into a sport ish weight. Your post is very inspiring!

I’m loving watching your progress. I won’t spin my own yarn but I’ve become really invested in the art of hand crafting. I mostly crochet and do counted cross stitch. It’s so much fun

I love progress over perfection! Some of my favorite qualities in my handspun are the “imperfections.”

Love seeing your progress, I have drop spindles exactly 1 braid of fiber in my life and that was enough to know it didn't scratch the itch in my brain the way knitting and crochet do. I wish it did but I don't think spinning is for me x

I will.never be a spinner like you I do have a drop spindle which I attempt occasionally. I have, however, started my first pair of socks largely due to you. Also due to you I managed to pick up and fix 2 dropped stitches in said socks using my crochet hook. Thank you x

Julie, a drop spindle is just as important a spinning tool as an e-spinner! Don't put yourself down! The sails on Christopher Columbus's ships were made from spindle-spun yarn, so were Sir Francis Drake's and for a long time it was thought that warp thread for weaving had to be spindle spun, not on a wheel, because wheel-spun yarn wasn't thought to be strong enough! I spindle spin when I can my spindle collection is obscene, as is my wheel collection, and I use all of them depending on the yarn I am going to spin. I can production spin, but its not my favourite and I won't take orders; I prefer spinning art yarns as they are the most fun to do. But whatever I am spinning, I find it very centering as it unites us with generations of spinners who go back to before written records were kept. Every yarn we spin is unique as our spinning is a form of meditation and there is no such thing as a bad yarn, its just an art yarn in the making! <3
